PRODUCTION METHOD

1

The hike is filmed first, in real time, durationally. No resets. Shot twice, over two days, 4–8 PM. The actors hike a 3.5-mile round trip, peaking with an ultraviolet sunset viewed from the rim trail at 250 feet, and ending in darkness. They improvise from a general script and memorized backstories; the director feeds minimal direction over radio, ensuring they hit story checkpoints on schedule.

The SPIES are shot after the hike is filmed and reviewed. Their dialogue is written against the finished footage — so the surveillance commentary is timed for comedy and tension. The SPIES are shot formally (locked frames, controlled light) in contrast to THE NORMIES' handheld YouTube aesthetic. Both are edited together to appear simultaneous.
