My films have screened at MoMA Doc Fortnight, Lincoln Center’s Art of The Real, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Visions du Réel and others. I’ve worked as a cinematographer internationally, including the US, Brazil, China, the South Pacific, Europe and Central Africa, and have contributed to Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning documentaries. I work as an editor, graphics artist and sound designer on films and installations.
VISUAL LANGUAGE: WHAT THE AUDIENCE SEES
Surveillance long lens, as shot by the military contractors. Full body of hikers in frame. Graphical overlays annotate — and misread — the scene. We hear A.I.-generated speech overdubs, sometimes perfect, usually not.
Raw footage from a low-subscriber YouTube account. Matt and Clare are filming the whole time with on-body 360º cams and their iPhones with selfie sticks. It’s the real account of the hike, intercut with THE SPIES’ surveillance.
THE SPIES
Clean cinematography and audio of the SPIES at their outpost, filming the hikers. Composed and locked-off shots, one exterior location. Their commentary runs over everything — two men inventing the movie they think they're watching.
